I ate a lot of food today at lunch and still only "spent" 283 calories. To put that into perspective, a glazed old-fashioned doughnut (my favorite) is 480 calories at Starbucks. They had a "protein" pack with some cheese, crackers, and grapes for the same amount of calories.

I never ever believed I could feel full on vegetables. I ate a pepperoni stick and a hard-boiled egg at lunch, so I've got protein in me. I feel good!

Now... weigh in here... I need a salt substitute. I'm trying to wean myself off of sodium, but I love salt, so I'm not very successful. I had raw radishes and a hard-boiled egg for lunch and they require salt! Any suggestions? A friend at work suggested Mrs. Dash's table blend, which is all finely ground spices, so I will give it a try. Sometimes, though, you just need a little salt.

I love the salt too! And i have high bp. I use things like garlic powder or onion powder, or curry powder or horseradish or hot sauce. I also like a little kick too, so ymmv. You are doing great, keep up the good work!

Thanks! I've been using garlic salt, but I never thought of using straight garlic or onion powder. Hmmm. I think dipping a hard-boiled egg in one of those might be great!

Costco has "Organic No Salt Seasoning" in their spice section. It is my go to for almost everything. It's garlic, onion, pepper, paprika, etc. all in shakable size. You can even put it in your salt/pepper mill.

Garlic salt has lots of sodium! Even more that plain salt. I use garlic powder or onion powder sometimes.

I'm not supposed to have much salt by I use either pink Himalayan or Celtic salt for the minerals (82 of them)

Lemon, Mrs. Dash spices and marinades are great. Also switch to Mortonks lite salt. It is half SODIUM and half potassium. You will never know the difference. Anything that comes in a can is pretty high in sodium. Manufacturers are getting better, but read the labels. Many products say low sodium but in reality the difference is minimal. Once you get use to eating less salted food it actually becomes hard to eat out because all you taste is SALT.

Read up on Himalayan salts. Not what you think. Salt is salt.

That is suppose to be Morton’s lite salt.

try No-Salt. it is crystalized potassium. it's what my grandpa was using when the doc told him he had to lower his sodium intake. I think he was getting it from the grocery store, but you could find it online too I'm sure.

I swapped out salt for black peppercorns .. or chilli flakes freshly grind either and it adds flavour and lots of healthy properties for you heart, insulin regulation and memory .. don't miss salt anymore. Plus any substitute isn't going to replace the benefits of real spices or herbs .. and probably going to be some processed gunk that's no good for you either. THink wholesomeness instead and retrain your taste buds away from salt.

All good ideas. Thanks for your input. I have a few new ideas to try. I won't be doing pepper or chili, though -- I'm a mild kind of gal :)

I use herbs de province on my eggs and on veggies and salads - it is very fragrant and adds a great flavor so I don't even notice there isn't any salt.

Surprising how good other spices are if you don't use salt, but I second the potassium salt idea - much finer than regular salt but tastes almost the same.

My mother swears by Mrs. Dash. her doctor took her off added salt entirely and she adores it. She gets the garlic herb brand.
