Doing well. I went out to eat at an expensive restaurant Sunday evening to celebrate three birthdays this week in my family. Anyway I avoided the bread rolls but dessert was included in the pricey meal so I got it - only a scoop and a half of sherbet so I don't feel too guilty as I could've had really high carb pie, cake or a multitude of other choices and I picked the one with the least amount of carbs. It was the first sugar I've had since Christmas Eve - I know I can avoid it for long periods of time and maybe have a little like I did the other night for a special occasion. Lots of compliments about my weight loss. One of my neighbors who just returned home less than a week ago and is diabetic in his 60s and is a leg amputee had to go back to the hospital because a visiting nurse came in and his leg was very swollen. They rushed him to the emergency room. Anyway I'm mentioning this because it's very important everyone know how dangerous sugar is (bad carbs too) he was in a nursing home about 4 months and did very well but since he returned last week started eating lots of sugar from the candy machine downstairs. My friends (who all eat sugar of course) don't understand why he can't listen to the doctor's advice. It is critical for everyone to avoid sugar even if there is no diabetes in their family, especially if they're overweight so they don't end up this way and prematurely very ill. Of course having it occasionally is OK I suppose, my latest fasting blood sugar was 86 so I'm OK, but I am being very health conscious and avoiding sugar and bad carbs long term and will only add fruit once I reach my goal weight. Take care everyone and to all good health - you're all on the right path!! :)

Everyone should remember that certain things are only ok as an occasional treat, having sugar every day is very harmful to our health. I think it is great that you are at a point that you were able to enjoy a small treat, made the best choice you could, and then got right back on the plan. You ARE doing this for LIFE! Great job!

Thanks sararay for the confirmation - I definitely am doing Atkins for life as I want to stay as healthy as possible for as long as I can - interestingly I heard the probiotic B bifidum - I think it's that lowers cholesterol! I read it on a site too when I looked it up. Also I heard it helps (probiotics) keep the immune system very strong. So I'm going to get some as soon as I can get to my vitamin store and take it regularly to help my health - it'll probably ease the arthritis too. Take care... :)

Thanks for the site I'll check it out - for now I want to get the B bifidum, which supposedly lowers cholesterol. It's great to know now that they help the immune system immensely and everyone should be taking them and it's often difficult for many of us on Atkins to get them without some type of supplement as yogurt and other foods that contain them are often high in sugar, sucrose, etc. or other sugars or high carbs... :)

Probiotics also aid the digestion of protein as well as boost the immune system. They have so many great benefits. You are right, everyone should try to encorporate them into a healthy diet. They aren't only found in yogurt.
