So I finally finished reading Atkins and you'd think I was ready to go. I've got some great tips as far as carbs but I don't think I"ll do induction. I"ve had a good food day, eggs with cheese this morning, one slice of carb friendly bread with tuna, tomatoes, and cheese. And for supper One chicken breast with zucchini. I also worked out for 35 minites on the ellipticul and some weights after. I'm strugglying with snacks, should I have yogurt or granola bars, I need somthing and I want to make sure I'm eating enough. Any suggestions? Tina

Snacks? How about popcorn, veges, fruit, oatmeal, tuna salad, water, etc.. So you arent doing induction? What eating style have you chosen?

Sorry Tina... but you're not on Atkins if you're eating granola bars or yogurt. The reason we do Atkins is to be in fat burning mode. Thats why we eat very little carbs and lot's of healthy fats and protein. As long as there is a good supply of carbs the body is going to burn them first. Snack ideas... S/F Jello, whipping cream, 10-12 nuts, hard boiled eggs, cheese, deli meats, coffe or tea with heavy cream and cinnimon etc.... Good luck :)

I haven't been eating the granola bars or the yogurt, I just have a hard time around 3:00, I literally have to tell myself I'm not hungry. I just did groceries this morning so I'm more prepared for the 2 weeks. Has anyone bought the strips or the supplements? I'm waiting to eat the nuts once I"m done induction. I know I could succeed on induction but why do we fall off track? Everytime I'm on the treadmill I swear that it stinks and I'm never gonna put anything bad in my mouth cause it's too hard to take it off, but that doesn't last long.

Since you read the Atkins book, you understand the importance of induction. May I ask why you decided not to do it? It does get easier, don't worry. It all takes practice, but it DOES GET EASIER! :)

I did read the book but I"m soooo nervous to drink my coffee with real cream, or forever I've read to eat fat free or low fat, and bacon holy cow that is sooo out of my diet zone. I'm really nervous I'll gain. So I've been eating eggs for breakfast, one slice of bread for lunch and no carbs for supper. How long have you been doing it and in what phase are you? Tina

Tina, I know how you feel about someone suddenly telling you that it's ok to eat FAT. Some people need a moment to absorb all this new information! I read the book too, and even I struggled with putting aside all I'd been taught about avoiding high fat. I had to rationalize it out, and UN-brainwash myself! If you just can't trust this book, try this; Ask yourself what you'd be eating 250 years ago; They had no refrigeration, no manufactured and processed foods, no granola bars, yogurt, pizza, ice cream, chips...etc. You know what I mean? What did they have? Well, if they were lucky they had eggs, cheese, milk, meat, fish, poultry, vegetables, nuts and fruit when they were in season. When people lived like that, diseases like diabetes and heart disease were unheard of! It's only until recently that our own government is startng to admit that our diets today are killing us! We have access to ANY junk food we want! ALL UNNATURAL INGREDIENTS! Most common foods we eat are not even recognized as food by our bodies! The amount of carbs we eat on average in the U.S. is staggering! My suggestion to you is that you read the book once more, giving it a true chance this time. I've been on induction phase of Atkins for a few months now, but you can be on it as long as it takes to lose weight. I also noticed you said how hungry you are in the afternoons; sounds to me like you are running off of carbs. When they get low in your system, you get the urge to eat. On ATkins, your body burns fat for fuel, so you hardly ever get hungry and when you do, it's because you truly are hungry! I know from experience that you just need a little time to absorb this information. Email me any time...I'll help answer all your questions, whatever you need to help you out. Good luck! It sounds to me like you're trying very hard to eat right and that should be commended! :)

Thank you sooo much, your truely are an inspiration! How did you do on induction? I did fat flush, faithfullly so it's not an issue that I can't get motivation, once I set my mind to it I do it. I just can't seem to put heavy cream in my coffee, do you?

First of all, if doing induction meant failure, non of us would have been as successful as we have been on it. I would like to suggest an option for you in order for you to wean yourself ONTO Atkins. I first started by totally eliminating junk food like chips, ice-cream and chocolates/candy. I also cut back on my carbs e.g. having one toast with my breakfast instead of two, smaller portions of rice and pasta. Eventually, I kept cutting back until I was able to totally eliminate most carbs from my diet and switched over to mostly salads. If you read peoples journals regularly here, you will find a wealth of information like recipes and low carb products that people eat to add variety whilst maintaining a low carb lifestyle. Different things work for different people but I would suggest that you give Atkins a try. There are so many people here who can guide you, in addition to the book.

oh by the way..HEAVY CREAM ROCKS!!! Just use less of it or mix it up with water to cut back on the creamy taste. Some people use the non dairy creamer but it can stall your weight loss so I personally only use it when my heavy cream is out.

I did fine on induction, and still am doing it! It's so liberating to not feel hungry! After about 3 days when your body has used up all the stored carbs, it will begin to burn the stored fat as fuel...and that's when the fun starts! You feel a new kind of energy and total FREEDOM from hunger and cravings. I like induction fine and could easily do it for life, with a few treats and splurges here and there!

oh, I use heavy cream all the time, mainly in my coffee. About once a week I'll make dessert with it too...its wonderful. You'll learn how nutritious food affects your body as soon as you make the switch to Atkins. I don't think you're lacking motivation...it's ok to take your time and find out all you need to before starting a program like this. You don't have to explain yourself. You have to do what's right for you, you know??

Thank you so much for the great advise! I'm getting my hair done today so I'm going to reread my book. I'm going to give it a try, if you guys have all lost using the real stuff it has to work. As far as heavy cream in my coffee I would so loooove that.TIna
