Being busy with other things, I wasn't paying attention to the coming virus so didn't shop ahead. We live in Los Angeles, and by the time my head was above water two weeks ago, stores had sold out of paper goods, the safety things we all want, and two-thirds or three-fourths of all groceries. Good thing I have some paper goods in the attic. I hit several stores and bought anything I could cook ahead and freeze, some of it actually was a large size for foodservice, like cheese and bacon. There was a 15-pound box of premium bacon just sitting there lonely in the deli section of a store, so I just went ahead and bought it. Too bad, it wasn't sealed in one pound packages as I hoped. Oh well, I'm just vacuum sealing it and will freeze some, and share it with my sister and disabled friend. I was glad to have most anything available that we regularly use, and things I could freeze. It was great I could buy milk, even though it was already rationed, like many other things. It was surprising to see someone just buying corn dogs and junk. At an ethnic store in my neighborhood, it looked like a couple of women just spent about five dollars or so. Maybe that's all they had or maybe that was just their custom of going to the store often. I bought no cookies, sweets, chips, or anything like that. I bought my husbands' favorite bourbon Makers Mark and the last 7-up the store had, for him, to go in it.

Life is funny, isn't it? I was afraid my husband would get mad at the amount of my purchase of meat, butter, olive oil, beans, and whatever canned soup was available. He never likes me buying ahead. It turned out he got mad that I bought myself a treat of Manischewitz blackberry wine, saying I hadn't bought it in 30 years and it's too sweet. I had bought him what he drinks, and then just bought what wine was available. It reminded me of some cherry wine we bought before we were married, and thought if worst comes to worst, I might sip a little something nice. The time may come we are only eating canned tuna. Some people I've spoken with don't understand why the stores are empty. We lived with the theory of “just in time” stocking shelves in all businesses, to not have to keep or store stock. They've said for years we only have 3 days' food in all the stores. We are headed for rough waters.

In my last journal, I was so down and asked various people on FS to pray for me. Things have been much better between my husband and me since then. I appreciate any and all prayers. He has tried to be nicer, and since I haven't been so raw emotionally, it's been easier to handle outbursts. On the food front, I've finally gotten off sweets but it's harder not to have a high carb starch at dinner since I am cooking so much, while I still can. Generally, I average about 16/8 intermittent fasting.

Wine sounds like a great idea on the eve of the apocalypse. I think I'll have some too. Thanks for the idea! Cheers!

Glad to see you posting again, Snowy! Sorry your husband is still being "himself" with regard to the wine. I couldn't live in your situation. I'm blessed to have a husband who has never been anything but kind and understanding with me (thank the Lord!) Will continue praying for you. Glad you're off sweets!!! I'm still succumbing on that front.

I'm glad things are better for you again, Snowwhite. Of course you should have whatever beverage appeals to you. It sounds like your husband has to get mad at something in order to feel good about himself. If you must live with it, please don't take it personally. This time of the coronavirus is hard enough. When he acts up, have compassion for the pain in him that makes him be unreasonable and/or cruel, and move on, being the caring, good person you are. Prayers for both of you and all of us!
