Back home from the cruise and my weight has exploded. In getting back on track, I won't be logging anything until my Monday weigh in. I did weigh myself on the cruise. Between a Monday morning weigh in and Tuesday morning weigh in at the same time, I was up eight pounds. I am sure that was mostly water weight as I do not believe it is humanly possible for me to have acquired eight pounds of fat in twenty four hours. The rest of the cruise did include other slight increases that are equally disheartening. Although I did maintain a diet/exercise journal up until Thursday of the cruise, I don't think I will be going back through to log it all in to fat secret.

Here is what I did right:

1. I exercised like a mad woman. I worked out harder and longer than I ever had every day. I incorporated strength training and boot camp fitness classes.
2. I still incorporated 2 24 hour fasts in a week.
3. I stayed away from soda pop completely.

Here is where I blew it:

1. I did not drink enough water.
2. I consumed way too many rich, sweet desserts, breads and other starches.
3. I drank alcohol on average a drink per day.
4. I mostly ate beef dishes (which were laden with salt).

Other than the weight gain, I had a very much needed and enjoyable vacation. I'm not sure when I will be lucky enough to get another vacation. Especially, since we got back home last night to find that a water pipe under our house had burst. There is no telling how much the water bill will be...or how much the repairs will be.

In any event, today I am back on track. I started fasting yesterday at 330. I will eat a light bit today at 330. I am also pumping in tons of water....at least a gallon today. I will lose what I have gained on the cruise although it may take me several weeks to do it. I am going to continue with the boot camp exercises I learned on the cruise to assist with strength training. I'm also going to push up my running distances. I have a long way to go ahead of me, but sitting around feeling defeated isn't going to help me. It's time to get back in charge of things.

I am going to try to catch up on everyone's journals in the next few days. I hope everyone had a great New Years.

Sounds like your awareness is right where it needs to be and since you have that, you are going to be just fine. You'll get right back on track. Hope you had a lot of fun and made a lot of great memories.

Glad you had a great time. A forever memory. Don't sweat the gain. I can't imagine going on a cruise and not enjoying the food and drink. You'll get back on track and watch how fast you dump the gain.

Need a WeightWatchers cruise or better yet an ATKINS cruise. Get rid of the salt...and alcohol...molten lava cakes too : ) (been there) Water is the best.

Id bet it only takes you a week to dump the cruise gain. Dont sweat it, definitely impossible to put on that many real pounds in such a short amount of time. Over christmas i was up then down seven pounds in a matter of three days. Glad you had a good time, thats what counts!

Thank you all for the comments and support. This was a cruise that I took my entire family on...parents, kids, spouse, brother and his fiancé. They wouldn't have enjoyed a diet-based cruise. I was able to wake up every morning at 6am to go to the fitness center until 11am to work out and attend fitness classes as most of them really were not out of bed before then. That was in addition to the HOURS of swimming and snorkeling each day. My fingers are still swollen to the point of my rings not fitting. Hopefully I can flush most of this off in a week, but to be realistic it will probably take a couple weeks.

You're absolutely right - impossible to gain 8lbs overnight without a Godiva IV hooked up for 24hours... so it's likely water and will clear up with your IF & clean eating. Good on you for enjoying the vacation and continuing to exercise thru it ... I'd have likely enjoyed more than one average drink a day from the cobwebs of my loungechair. You did it right - and you'll get back in the swing.

Ugh, sorry, 2MC! But so glad you had fun, and let's face it... how often do you go on family cruises? It's ok to relax and enjoy every once in awhile. Besides you did so many GOOD things, that you did VERY WELL, I think! Nice work. That water-weight will melt off you in no time!

Hi 2ManyCurves. I'm glad you enjoyed your cruise and indulged a little. I know you can get back on track no problem! I also had a again over a 2-week vacation back in the summer that included a 7-day cruise. As soon as I got back to reality and back on track, I snapped back quickly and continued the steady weight loss. Take a look back at my weight chart in late July and early August. You'll see the spike up and then down again. You can do it, too!
