Yesterday I had a doctor's appointment where she really let me have it on my weight. She recommended I seriously consider lap band surgery. I told her I hadn't even really given diet/exercise a serious try and she said time was running out and that I needed to get weight off very soon (BMI 38 qualifies me for the band I guess). Anyway, here we go (unfortunately not for Bud Light) I'm on 2200 cal a day 40% carb, 30% protein, 30% fat. Goal is to exercise weekly 1000 cal. I've got 19" neck and 50" at belly button and its time to make all my numbers smaller. Getting blood work done monday for cholesterol etc. This time will be different in that its really about living to see 50, not trying for size 36 pant. Hopefully keeping that in mind will keep me on track.

Way to give diet and exercise a real chance before jumping in for the lap band!

2200 cal will be very comfortable for you & you can absolutely lose weight by following those recommendations. Thanks for the buddy request! Keep connecting with others you might want to keep up with & don't be afraid to browse their food diaries & journals to see what they're doing. I've stumbled across tons of wonderful ideas that have been incorporated into my new lifestyle & the results speak for themselves. Welcome to the site!!! P.S. I type my husband's FB statuses sometimes & his friends always know. Even if I misspell something on purpose, they know because the grammar is correct, lol. Your wife sounds awesome. ;)

Thanks for the request - you sound like you've got a manageable plan. 2200 calories is totally doable. Living to see 50 (and beyond) is a good idea, I can get behind that as a goal. ;-) One trick another male friend of mine used, and it worked well, was to limit beer/booze to weekends - and even then not have more than 2-3 max. He didn't change how he ate in the slightest, at least that's what he told me, he lost about 20lbs just by cutting back on the beer.

I am not sure how you eat but also cut the soda and sodium. I went to no salt. It takes a while to get used to but you can also season with natural seasonings if you feel the food is to bland. FS has a great network of people that are going through the same issues. I am on nutrisystem but there are many diets and choices out there. FS has a diet secrion and you just need to find the one that works the best for you. Welcome on board to a healthy life style change and the inevitable weight loss you can achieve once you make changes to your eating habits and style.

I am glad to hear you opted to give diet and exercise a shot. A lot of people would have opted for the band with out honestly trying. FS is a great site with tons of great people so you are already a step in the right direction, remember a lot of this is trial an error and don't give up!
