Can I just say, I'm 64. I'm not into weights. I have degenerative disc disease in my spine and arthritis in my neck. The only way I can ever hope to lose weight is by eating well and exercising more.

Also, to all of you posting ice cream pics etc. Enjoy it while you can. Once upon a time this was a site that encouraged people to cut down on calories. I'm finding all of the blatent display of ooh I ate 44 brownies et al a bit stupid. Come on guys!

My brother in law has something similar. His spine is fusing in on his cord.

dear Gilly, have you tried a rowing machine. I'm 61 with worn discs and arthritis of the spine and I just did a marathon on my rowing machine. It's very gentle on your spine and the way it has strengthened my core muscles has alleviated a lot of my chronic pain. Same calorie use as jogging but without the jarring of your joints

Hi Colin, when I was younger (and fitter) I used to go to a gym and the rowing machine was my favourite piece of equipment. I'll see if I can try it out somewhere. Thanks for the suggestion x
