I never realized how many crunchy and sticky foods were in my snack drawer at work until I broke a tooth and got a root canal and a temporary crown as my grand prize. Most of what I usually eat requires more chewing than I'm up to at the moment. Gotta figure something out for now. Unfortunately, when I don't have as much chewing, it's harder for me to feel full. Weird, huh? It was the same experience when I had to be on a low fiber diet before my colonoscopy -- I just literally never felt full

Totally makes sense writingwyo. Part of what triggers our feeling of satiation is the very act of chewing and the signals it sends to our bodies that we are eating. It is also why junk food is engineered to turn into mush quickly so that we eat more of it (think Pringles - one crunch, a bit of saliva and mush results....next thing you know the whole tube is gone. Apple juice is another good example - were one to bite and throughly chew an apple, one does tend to feel satiated, whereas apple juice? A couple of swigs and done, want more of something else. Complex machines these bodies of ours.

I need fiber and I need chewing. I need protein. I never feel full drinking calories.

Anni, Morticia -- I guess I'm not the only one! I'm beginning to be able to chew semi-normally again, although I'm being exceedingly cautious around that temporary crown. Worst part is not being able to chew gum at the office. Yesterday, I went for jicama, pretzels, and graham crackers instead of gum and overate. Haven't been weighing or tracking, and I anticipate a bump up. Restarted tracking this morning and will likely start weighing again Monday
