Last seen 8/16/21 - it’s been a while. So much has happened, and so little of it good. On 7/14/2020, at the peak of my post-50 fitness level, we lost my Dad. He was a spectacular human in every way - I was in my 40s before I realized he could get crabby.
We also lost 3 more dogs, but the greatest tragedy was my son’s suicide just a week before his 25th birthday on 1/27/22. I was the one who found him, and that launched me into nearly 2 years of PTSD and heavy drinking. On December 27th, I had to be rushed to the hospital for emergency gall bladder surgery. While my doctor was removing it, he observed that I have a fatty liver. I was not surprised, and I am absolutely not afraid to die, but I don’t want my family to have to tell people that my drinking killed me.
So I stood on my scale today to mark my weight as I enter into this life without wine in my house. I won’t be doing any special diet or exercise, but I’m interested to see how making this one step affects my weight.
You’re all welcome to join me.

Oh big hug (I'm not much of a hugger, but...) Our family can sure understand what you have shared. Just a little encouragement on your decision to ban wine...my daughter and her husband made the same choice after s.il. had a 'widow-maker' a few months ago, She also had fatty liver and terrible 'metabolic panel' lab numbers. They had gradually been gaining and also drinking a good deal of wine. Daughter did go very OCD on food choices and portions for most days. Thet both cut out nearly all wine and they have both lost so much that they've had to get some new clothes to supplement the older ones that had become too small. Fatty liver is caused by more than alcohol. I too had it at my heaviest and for me, it apparently was simple carbs and too much commercially-made food since I rarely have any sort of alcohol. So expect good results and feeling better.

You got this! I gave up alcohol for the month of December and have kept on going. The first couple weeks were very hard, weird side effects like gas, lol, lots of gas as your gut heals itself, but everyone is different. Again, you got this!

A lot has happened to you and your family. I hope you find the peace you need. It's a process, but you can do this. Stopping drinking is definitely a good start. 🩷

life. Big, Glorious, Horrifying, Never predictable.
But here you are and you've wisely reached out to a community that will listen and lift you up. We truly understand.
My only advice on eating would be add a high quality C and B complex as alcohol use depletes both. Consider Jarrow or Thorne as both enjoy a good reputation.
You are an inspiration.
