I am really finding it depressing and hard to stick to my diet this time around ... really really depressingly I have put a pound back on .....I am actually wondering if this is really worth all the misery especially when my body seems determined to be back at 156 no matter what. I went down to 143 last year and that took a herculean effort - I just don't seem to have the motivation this time and yet in 3 weeks I am going away and want to be able to relax - having lost a few lbs. Why am I so conflicted and how can I find the motivation i need? When I get on the scale to weight and no weight has gone I feel like i need to starve to get anywhere and its a tempting prospect :0( especially with a history of severe eating disorders I feel very miserable about food right now and am worried about these old attitudes creeping back in after years of working at a healthier relationship with food. I am 5 feet 7 and weigh 152 - that is not fat and yet I hate hate hate my belly and just want rid of it as quickly as possible even if that does mean starvation :0(.

I sympathise, I am in exactly the same place - over the last few years I have been losing the same ten pounds over and over again. It seems like my body just doesn't want to be at my optimum weight. I wish I could be content at around 152, but I just cannot stand the podge around my waist. I wish you the very best in your endeavours. :)

Hi Maria - just out of interest, are you in your late forties/early fifties? its just that is when things seem to slow down like this! :0)

Sorry I missed your message. No, I'm a bit older and I was doing fine until my thyroid started playing up. In retrospect I think I've been borderline hypothyroid for about 15 years, but I didn't really notice the symptoms until after I did the 5:2 and it all went haywire. It's taken about 2 years of experimenting but I think I've finally figured it out, (though I don't want to talk too soon as I have said this many times before) :) I hope you have got your mojo back.

I am 50 and noticed my metabolism slowed down considerably from age 35. I have monitored my weight closely since then. My body does seem to settle at a certain weight. Of course, this is heavier than I want. Every now and again I have a strict diet to get down to my target weight, flat tummy etc. It is hard to do and not sustainable long term but worth the effort every now and then. Keep at it!
