My doctor wants me to document my weight daily. She says it will keep me more in tune with how my day-to-day activities (water intake, food I eat, exercise) affect my body and believes it can help me lose weight better.

I admit, I was a little torn about it, but there's research showing several benefits such as:

-gaining weight won't slip by because you'll see it and be able to do something about it.

-weight daily can help a person not eat mindlessly (I'm so guilty of eating mindlessly!)

However, the major downside to weighing daily is if you aren't losing like you want, it could sever your mood. I can relate to that.

For me, I have a healthy regard for the scale and realize the scale doesn't tell me everything. It doesn't show the muscle I've gained or the inches I've lost.

I'm curious what you do and why?

Finally getting over that plateau! Woohoo!

This week, I started a new work-sponsored weight loss program that focuses on being in tune with your body's hunger needs. At first, I was really uncomfortable with this philosophy because I eat at certain times of the day. But I've been doing this faithfully since Monday and it seems to be working. I'm not going to bed hungry and I'm eating foods that I enjoy. The main premise is not to change what you eat but when and how you eat.

When you eat is when you are hungry. I'm still trying to figure this out for myself, but right now I'm gauging hunger by when my stomach is growling repeatedly.

The "how" of eating involved eating for a minimum of 20 minutes and really savoring each bite. It takes about 20 minutes for your brain to register you are full but many eat way too fast causing you not to think you ate, which leads to overeating. I'm guilty of this because I'm always rushing.

Furthermore, your taste center needs to be satisfied as well. But if we shovel food in our mouth, we don't really taste it. Our taste buds are all over our mouth including under the tongue. I found out the tongue doesn't have as many taste buds as I thought!

Anyways, this program requires documenting hunger levels, times, and what I ate. I'm pretty happy with my progress so far, but this is a 10 week program so we'll see how it goes.
