Ok, so I completed the "INTUITIVE EATING" classes and yes, they DO teach good habits but they make me feel sabotaged by what they teach you about HOW to eat. During the course of the classes I GAINED weight, my health goals are to lose and being taught to more-or-less eat what you want when you want and as much as you want does not help a person who is trying to lose weight. It tells you that your weight/size does not matter..,but it does to me. When a person has a family or personal history of obesity, eating in such a way is NOT healthy and now I feel as if I have to start from scratch. So here goes, restarting everything AGAIN!.., my new beginning weight as of today is 175.6 lbs. Today I start logging again and moving more. On the positive though, without really putting any extra effort into things lately, I've been meeting my Fitbit daily step goal of 10,000 steps per day., now to just make sure I can keep it up.

Intuitive Eating is a class that teaches us how much of any food or nutrients we need and how to know when we've had enough without punishing ourselves for overeating or splurging. My bariatric surgeon had recommended that I see a Dr. friend of his who taught the class. If you Google it you can find the workbook that we used. I'll look to see if I can find the website for the group and if I do, I'll post it for you to take a look at. Keeping in mind that personally I don't see it as something for everyone.

Is the class based on the well known book - intuitive Eating by Evelyn Tribole?

So just about amounts and not about foods as such. May work for some. I think I need some structure though as I can easily be "intuitive" about a whole bag of peanuts

Quote from interview of Tribole. Certainly a worthy pursuit "I think that this question needs to be looked at in a different way. First of all, Intuitive Eating is not about will power or self control. Instead, it’s about trusting the body to give accurate information about the what, when, and how much to eat. This trust can only come from going through a process of making peace with all foods, so no food is forbidden. Forbidding or restricting certain foods creates a sense of deprivation and a subsequent period of overeating as a backlash to the deprivation. In the beginning of finding their way back to their internal wisdom about food, many people go through a period of eating more of the foods that have previously been forbidden, and eating them more often than they will as time goes on. When they finally truly belief that they have unconditional permission to eat any food, without judgment, and without fear of future deprivation, more balance in eating organically evolves. The people who tend to eat “too much” for “too long” are holding onto some inner belief that “if this doesn’t work, I can go on to some new diet”. Even the mere perception of future deprivation will lead people to feel out control and eat in an out of control manner."
