Just got back from the doctor. In February I had a physical where I was run through the whole shebang: Weight, BP, Cholesterol, Blood panel (I have hypothyroidism), urinalysis, etc.

I am happy to say that since then, I have lost 14 pounds and I have to believe it's more since my trip to Vegas at the end of June. To go along with that, my cholesterol is in the mid-100s and my BP is 112/80 (medicated). Given other readings (Triglycerides and whatnot), it appears that my kidneys and liver are functioning normally as well.

I figure at this rate (knowing full well that I probably won't maintain this pace), I should be about 235 by New Years, my low watermark since college (218) by Presidents' Day, and 199 by the time UConn repeats as Basketball National Champions (Both Men and Women, of course), despite the NCAA's best efforts to prevent it.

Until then, slow and steady wins the race and small goals will be celebrated along the way.

I read that you were born without a thyroid. I'm curious, what's the TSH reading for that when you're not medicated (as I'm sure you must be). I ask because 14 months ago mine was at 18. A few weeks ago it was up to 87.8. The dr isn't sure how I'm ever awake. He's increased my meds and I'm just wondering what I'm facing here.

Honestly, I have no idea. I've been on some sort of Synthroid since I was 3 weeks old. Most states didn't even test for it back then (1977). The longest I've gone without medication is 72 hours and the one time it happened, I was a slug. I may miss a day here or there, but I am pretty adamant on taking my pills (350mcg Levothyroxine/day. My Dr. says it's the highest daily dose she's ever seen), even going so far as to double dose 12 hours apart if I miss a day. The good part about my pills is that they taste sugary, My mother would dissolve them in my cereal when I was a kid.

You sound like you are in tip top shape. Kudos to you on your Cholesterol reading, that is fantastic! You are correct -- slow and steady wins the race. Congrats on your weight loss too!

I'm on 250 mcg of Levothyroxine/day right now and I think he's increasing it to 300 mcg next week. It's nice to have something baseline to compare with. Hopefully mine will stabilize. We're pretty sure now that I've always had a problem but being born in 1961 not much known then.
