I have been a scrawny dude my whole life. Always skinny and sickly looking. After a breakup with long time girlfriend in 2004, I started to "reinvent" myself. I became a vegetarian (2005) and started dressing better (wearing clothes that actually fit my skinny frame). After enjoying vegetarianism and learning about the horrors of meat and other animal products I switched to veganism in August of 2009. Since then I've really started to pay attention to my diet and have also started to cook. It is much more time consuming, but food is also much more enjoyable when it doesn't come out of a can or box or involve the internal conflict that eating animal products triggered in me. Becoming vegan has opened me up to many new foods and experiences that I would have otherwise over looked.
I joined fatsecret to better monitor my food intake. I have never really had a problem losing weight, my problem is the opposite in fact. Its really hard for me to put on weight. I think the most I have weighed was about 162lbs in 2006 or 2007, and that was when I was lifting like crazy and eating like a horse.
Now that I'm vegan, I'm forcing myself to take a closer look at my diet and making sure that I'm doing things healthily. My gym closed down about a year ago and, along with some other things, forced me into a bit of a depressed state. I've had trouble getting out of that hole and working out again. I bike to work now, but I haven't done any consistent strength training in over 2 years.
Any advice or tips from other vegans would be appreciated. Or just anyone with advice for a hardgainer.
