We celebrated Katy's birthday today with a trip to O'Charley's. I knew I would be having a large meal so I purposely limited my caloric intake for breakfast and lunch. It is amazing how quickly those calories add up.

It was so nice to see that I was down 2 pounds this week. I guess the use of the crutches gave me the exercise I needed to pull this off. My diet plan is basically just to lower my caloric intake and try to exercise. With my recent history of plantar fascitis in my left foot and my sprained/fractured right ankle, the exercise has been very difficult. I am trying to walk on the right foot today with and without the support of the crutches. If I need to go more than 4 or 5 feet, I have the crutches on the ready to take over if needed. However, a few steps here or there are being attempted without the crutches. We will see how it goes and whether or not this makes it swell back up. The swelling is still there, but it is much better than it was.

I can't believe my luck . . . bad luck, that is. I am out of the hard cast for about 4 weeks, the foot is improving, and what do I go and do. I sprain and fracture my right ankle! I will be in a plaster splint for at least 3 or 4 days. Then, hopefully, the swelling will have gone down to the point where I can go to just a regular ace bandage. However, the long term recovery is going to have to do with the soft tissue damage in my ankle region. The fracture itself was very minor. Basically, as the soft tissue pulled away from the bone, it took two bone fragments with it. This was enough to increase my diagnosis from just a bad sprain to a sprain with a fracture. To top matters off, I also wrenched my left knee, so walking on crutches is very difficult. At least this time I won't have to be on the crutches for so long. Of course, after leaving the emergency room a little after 11:00 last night, and having had no dinner, we grabbed a quick bite at Wendy's, and I did not select the lowest calorie items needless to say based on my calorie count for yesterday. Yesterday was not the morning to give into temptation and buy a coke from the vending machine.

I made it back to the gym today. I wasn't sure I would be able to since my foot was so sore yesterday after being on it Saturday. I guess the ice and the stretching helped. I also wore a new pair of shoes today. By this afternoon, the foot wasn't hurting, but the arch was very tight. Doing my class helped to stretch it out, but it is still not competely loose. I had a hard time doing the tricep track today. I really lost alot of muscle strength. I am going to have to build back up to where I was. My goal is to begin teaching my class again May 5.

Well, I weighed in again and I stayed the same. After all I ate yesterday, I'm glad I didn't gain. My foot is feeling much better today. I have spent most of the afternoon working in the pasture as we clean up a trashy area. I am in for a break, and then I will get back at it. I am probably going to be sunburned. I plan to put on more sunscreen before I go back out. I think I had better put up the SPF 30 and pull out the 50.
