I need some advice. I think I chose the wrong diet for me. I thought a keto diet was ideal for me since I now have a gluten sensitivity. But I didn't consider all the variables. I've read that increased stress, either physical or emotional, can be detrimental to a keto diet. I've been killing myself for the past week to make sure I'm adhering to the strict requirements of a keto diet. But I also need to increase my muscle mass...and my fiance tends to snap at me or start arguments pretty much every night. Tonight, the arguments centered around my need to monitor my progress... He said that getting a scale to weigh myself would be a waste of money because our apartment doesn't have a level floor anywhere (though there was additional arguing over the kitties worm medicine). But since I started to diet, he's snapped at me over every change I reported in the items I am allowed to eat.

He is overweight as well (far more than I am), but I have never hassled him over it because he's diebetic and allergic to artificial sweeteners. ...at least until he started cracking jokes about MY weight. -.- Now, I'm determined to do something about my weight for my own comfort and self-esteem, but I don't know how...I've never had to diet before and as I said...I'm thinking that I chose the wrong diet, if these nightly arguments or any additional physical stress (resistance training) might prevent ketosis.

im sorry things are going that way for you. he shouldn't be doing that(which im sure he knows...). maybe it would be a better idea to just slowly cut out various food groups (starting with pops/most juices and junk food/candy) cuz ive cut most junk food (especially chocolate this month) and it's helping me lose weight. also, drink LOTS of green tea (honey lemon is my fave). just some suggestions to try out 😊

You should really get a Drs opinion on the right course for you or at least a nutritionist. The poor jokes and anger comes from not understanding the concept of Keto and an instinctive fear of you becoming healthier than he. Guess what, you already are. When we acknowledge that our weight is out of hand and we make a firm decision to do something about it, you become healthier in mind and that's exactly where your journey needs to start. He will get tired of the picking at you when he starts to see how commited you are. A cheap way to keep your weight checked is at any GNC or local pharmacy or find higi station. The GNC will cost you a buck but the pharmacy usually will have a scale. The higi stations are free and you can keep track of your BP and bmi. You can do this, we are all here to help🙋

do you it sounds like he's not the right one to be your partner if he can't be supportive of your goals and progress let him be miserable that's what it's all about he is not happy with himself so he wants to keep you pulled down don't let it happen do what makes you happy and feel good about yourself for me when it comes to dieting it's all about portion control period I can't do keto I like carbs and sweets but I know it has to be in moderation I try to keep my calorie intake pretty low and hit the gym 4 to 5 times a week even if you're just walking it'll help I started out just walking for 45 everyday and lost 20 pounds now I do strength training and a bit of cardio I've managed to get a couple pounds below my original goal weight so experiment and see what works best for you it takes a while but you'll get it just keep your eye on the prize stay focused and consistent consistency is huge good luck

Time to Google “weight loss diets” and do a little research. Also time to show that guy the door. If things are that bad now think what it would get to be if he were your Mr.

I went on the keto diet, ate not one bite of anything I shouldn't have. one month I lost 14.5 lbs and 11 inches. 3 more weeks stalemate. I've read alot of bad about the diet, increased morbidity rate from high fat consumption, etc. I can't even have an apple. and I never hit ketosis. I stick checked every day as well. I'm 53 with PCOS and I've lost 140 lbs by starving myself. which was easier than doing it right so I'm healthy! all these fad diets, idk. I almost think old fashioned calorie counting and exercise is the way to go. and it hurts when someone we love isn't supportive. that part of your life is personal and no one can reach those decisions but you. best of luck!!

increased morbidity rate. I think I need to see a source for that information??? Ashira, any weightloss is perhaps hindered by stress so try to make your environment comfortable. If your boyfriend had diabetes2 low carb would be great for him to. To increase muscle mass you need to eat protein (and you do on keto) and exercise. I do both. Anyways, if you are not comfortable just change diet. And good luck

https://www.livekindly.co/vegan-dr-kim-williams-says-keto-diet-suitable-for-no-one/ This is a link for the lady who wanted to know where I got my info from. And it was mortality not morbidity, I'm sorry! Whatever way anyone so chooses to do, any steps towards eating better and being more active is great. Positive attitudes all the way!

It seems to me you have more dead weight you need to lose aside of your own. Sorry, I don't know any of you, but by reading you, your bf seems to be abusive AF.

You're an intelligent person and you know how to lose weight, but if bf is cheap and callous now, he will only get worse. Please consider pre-marital counseling. Go yourself if he refuses. Good luck.

Dear Ashira! I think a keto diet is good for you. All diets and good health in general need peace and happiness. Try to get happy and peaceful yourself. This may take some effort on your part. Decide you want to be happy and choose to be happy!!

Ashira, I found it helpful to read some of the member profile stories here. Research a little. It will be a trial basis in the beginning; getting to know your body. Several members told me not to start and I was a little resistant took some time to research decided to take their advice and upped my calories closer to 1200. I dropped a couple pounds over the last week and I think that is a good strategy for my body. You will figure it out. And there are a lot of cheerleaders here at on FS.

The Keto diet is a good diet, and buying a scale lets you monitor how your body reacts to the diet. Buy a digital scale that show tiny increments for the good and the bad, that way you can adjust your intake daily. I weigh myself every day. There are good days and bad days, but try and take it all in stride. I cook 3 different suppers for each person in the house that have different diet needs. You may have to do the same for you and your hubby. Once you start dieting, you may be surprised to find he wants to change as well. Don't worry about muscle mass versus fat, it all works out in the long term, your body knows what to do. Just stick to the diet and see what happens. Your hubby may have a hard time adjusting to the change, as mine did. I have to eat really high fat foods in the kitchen so he doesn't have to watch. He actually feels sick to his stomach watching me eat really high fat foods, since I eat the cooked fat off chicken or turkey. I also snack often, and don't really sit down for a meal because the high fat foods don't take up much room on a plate. Give yourself and your hubby time to adjust. Let him eat what he wants and you eat what you want. Keep us posted. Good luck.

Lots of good advise here. I wish you luck. A fiance should be supportive so maybe it is time to tell him good bye.
